Getting started
Do I need an account to look around?
No. You can browse films, read reviews and explore the community without signing in. To log films and keep them across devices, create a membership — we'll text or email a 6-digit code to confirm it's you (OTP), and you pick a display name. No passwords.
How do I create a membership?
Open the app, go to Settings, and claim a display name. In this reference build the OTP step runs in labelled demo mode so you can get straight in; on a private deployment, the platform's site gate texts a real 6-digit code to the people you invite.
Logging, rating & reviewing
How do I log a film?
Search for it in the top bar, open its page, and hit Watched for a one-tap log, or Review or log to open the full sheet: a date, a half-star rating, a like, a rewatch toggle, a review and tags. Hit Save and it slides into your diary.
What's the difference between rating and logging?
A rating is just a number on a film. A log is a dated diary entry. You can rate without logging, but only dated diary entries count toward your Year in Review — so if you want the stats, log with a date.
How do half-stars work?
Hover across the stars (or drag on touch) — the fill snaps at each half. Drag down and off to clear. Ratings run from ½ to 5 stars in half-star steps.
What are the three coloured buttons?
The three dots turned into verbs: green eye = watched, orange heart = liked, blue clock = watchlist. Each is a single tap.
Your diary & lists
Where do my logs go?
Into your diary, grouped by month, newest first — day, poster, stars, a heart if you liked it, a rewatch mark and a review icon.
How do lists work?
Build ranked or unranked lists of films from Lists. Tag one showdown to enter the fortnightly community list-off.
Migrating your history (CSV import)
Can I bring my history from IMDb or another logger?
Yes — that's a day-one feature. Open Settings in the app and choose a CSV under Import your history. We read Name, Year, Your Rating and a date column if the file has one, match on title and year so remakes land on the right film, tell you how many of your rows matched, and only write to your diary once you confirm. Ratings out of 10 (IMDb) and out of 5 are both understood.
A film from my import didn't match. Why?
Usually a year mismatch on a remake, or a very obscure title that isn't in the catalogue. In this reference build the catalogue is a fixed fictional dataset, so real imports are demonstrated but won't find real titles — connect a TMDB key (below) for the full catalogue.
Your data & export
How do I export everything?
Settings → Export everything gives you five CSVs — diary.csv, ratings.csv, reviews.csv, watchlist.csv and lists.csv — one click each, built in your browser. No archive to unzip and nothing sent anywhere. Export is free and never Pro-gated: an honest way out is a trust signal, not a paywall.
Who can see my activity?
Your logs are visible to people who follow you and appear in the community feed. On a private deployment, only invited members can see anything at all. You own your content and can delete any log, review or list at any time.
Pro & Patron
What do I get with Pro?
Year-round stats instead of one day a year, plus no ads. See the full plans. In this build the Pro stats surface is a labelled placeholder; the free Year in Review shows the shape of the numbers.
Is my card charged?
No. This reference build uses free-mode checkout — it records a real order object and confirms it, but collects no card fields and charges nothing.
The catalogue & TMDB
Are these real films?
No. This build ships a generated fictional catalogue of 5,200 titles with procedural poster art, so it's fully self-contained. It is honestly labelled as fictional everywhere.
How do I get the real film database?
Add a tmdb API key to the site vault. The app reads it server-side through the integrations proxy and switches film search and metadata to the real ~1M-title TMDB catalogue — the same source the real product uses. This is documented in Settings.
